The OnLive Game System (MicroConsole) is a media streaming device and dongle for the games offered by their OnLive Gaming Service.  Titles are rendered remotely and distributed to gamers through the internet (cloud-based gaming).  This service was initially only available to PC clients, but the OnLive Game System brings this experience to that HDTV in your living room.

The console comes with a wireless controller and all of the cables to get you started right out of the box (including one free game of your choice).  A steady 3-5Mbps internet connection is required to enjoy the experience.  The OnLive interface provides access to previously purchased game content, new offerings and a few networking applications (i.e. Brag Clips).  The hardware itself is extremely small and fits easily within any entertainment center.  Reports indicate that the built-in WiFi is a bit buggy, so ensure to place the OnLive Game System within reach of your wired internet connection.  Another item of note is that the maximum resolution of streamed video is 720p.

Overall the OnLive Game System seems like an excellent low-cost alternative for gaining access to cloud-based gaming from the comfort of your couch.

FORMAT, PACKAGING & GENERAL INFO
Interesting facts on software for this system
Software for the OnLive Game System is digitally distributed through the OnLive Gaming Service.

OnLive initially charged a monthly fee of $14.95 USD per month, but this would be dropped within 3 months of launch in favor of consumption based pricing.  Titles may be rented for three (3) or five (5) days increments, or may be purchased in full to enable unfettered future game play  for the respective title.

An additional subscription option, known as the PlayPack Bundle, is currently available which provides the gamer unlimited access to the OnLive software library for a monthly fee of $9.99 USD.  Many demos are available to test drive many of the offerings in the OnLive library of games.
